Mostly a travel day today. Left Tuscany in the morning after a nice buffet breakfast at our hotel, Laconda le Piazze. One of our bags finally made it to Italy (Florence), so we detoured to the airport and picked it up. It ended up being the Wine Check, a convenient bag that holds a cardboard box and foam insert that will easily hold and transport 12 bottles of wine. Since we picked up six bottles on our Brunello tour, this bag was very necessary. From the Florence airport, it was on to Milan.
We are only in Milan for one reason: BeyoncĂ© and Jay-Z’s “On The Run II Tour” which kicked of in the UK a couple of weeks ago, and is currently traveling through Europe, before heading to the US. We got to Milan a couple of hours before the show and tried to do some shopping. At this point, we really just need an H&M or Zara to get a few basics. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a store nearby, so we looked at a few other places to no avail.
We headed back to the hotel and changed clothes and headed to the home of soccer (football) club AC Milan at Stadio San Siro. It’s an open air stadium with overhangs covering most of the seating, but little of the field (and in this case, stage). Italy has much more lax rules about where and when you can buy and carry alcohol, so we grabbed some food and some beers outside of the venue (they had a bunch of food trucks and stands set up), picked up our Will Call tickets and headed inside, beer in hand.
Our seats where great, with excellent views of the stage. Anything closer would have been too low to really see over the crowd/railing, and the center/floor area was all standing-room only. The concert was delayed about 30 minutes due to rain, but once it kicked off it was AMAZING! Definitely worth another viewing in the US. We will post more about the concert in another post, in the next few weeks, so look for that.
Off to Venice in the morning! (….with an great meal planned along the way….)
