Day 6 – Singapore

We woke up early and took advantage of the complimentary breakfast at Spago, on the pool level of the hotel. After breakfast, it was still quite early, so we got a prime spot by the pool and waited for the sun to come over the hotel.  The weather stayed cloudy for most of the morning, but broke enough to get some great photos in the pool.

Back to the hawker centres for lunch, this time to the Newton Food Centre, made famous by the movie “Crazy Rich Asians”.  The highlight was the Spicy Crab from Alliance Seafood.  Chili crab is probably the most iconic dish in Singapore, but it is extremely messy.  A fun eating experience, but probably only worth doing once; especially with all of the the amazing food options at the other stalls.  Our next stop was the lobby bar (1864 The Bar) at the Sofitel hotel for a quick drink and then back to the Marina Bay Sands for a power nap before our last night in Singapore.

Our final evening included drinks at Lavo, followed by dinner at Adrift (both at MBS).  From there was headed out to the Gardens by the Bay park, which is adjacent to the hotel.  The park is known for its many “trees” that are all garden walls with lit branches, looking much like a Baobab tree with flat tops.  It was nice to get out of the hotel and walk for a while, just to get the juices flowing.

We ended our night with a trip back to Atlas Bar (which was fully booked, so we had to get on the wait list).  While we waited, we headed across the street to the Andaz hotel and had a drink at their rooftop bar.  The hotel and bar scene in Singapore is really great.  Definitely worth carving out a little time to check out a few.  We finally got into Atlas and were blown away by the Art Deco architecture and the scale of the bar (three story tower of bottles).  Great vibes! We wish there were something comparable in Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York, but this was in a class by itself.

A great last day in an amazing city!
