Day 9 – Tokyo and back to LA

Sadly, it’s time to head home, back to Los Angeles. Our flight isn’t until the afternoon, so we had time to sleep in, pack and head upstairs to the New York Bar, for their legendary brunch. The price is not crazy expensive for what you get: made to order entrée, all-you-can-eat appetizer/salad buffet, glass of champagne (Ruinart) and all-you-can-eat dessert buffet – All for about $75.

But, it’s our last meal in Japan and we are sparing no expense. First upgrade is to Dom Perignon 2008 Vintage (only a $9 mark up), but the real treat is a 6 oz piece of Kobe beef. We’ve been talking about going more vegetarian/vegan in 2020, so this is a bit of a last hurrah. The beef is expensive, to be sure, but it truly is the best in the world. Perfectly marbled, melting like butter in your mouth. Definitely not an everyday meal (or even a once a month treat), but for very special occasion (and especially in Japan, the home of Kobe).

Overall, the spread was incredible. Not only the exceptional beef, but also the buffets and views, including Mt. Fuji off in the distance. True to its vibe, a jazz duo played in the “bar” room (which is also where the buffet is located), creating a perfect high-end brunch vibe.

After brunch, it was off to Haneda Airport (HND), which is definitely preferable to Narita if you have an option of where to fly into. We had just enough time to do a little souvenir shopping and then hop our 9+ hour flight in Delta’s new “DeltaOne Suite” seats (upgrades courtesy of status on Delta Airlines).

That’s a wrap on Tokyo & Singapore. Thanks for tuning in!
