Woke up in Bora Bora! What more could you ask for? Well, better weather for one. “Dry” season in the tropics is a relative term. You can expect a little rain every day. We got ours at around 6:00am, but the wind and clouds wouldn’t quit. Between the early rain and the strong winds, snorkeling was mediocre at best. We tried a quick one after breakfast, but it just wasn’t worth the hassle. We figured this would be as good a day as any to just lounge around the property.
We spent a few hours just hanging out on the sun deck, hoping for the weather to improve, killing time reading books and playing cards. Eventually we headed to lunch at the beach grill and then to the pool. The sun came out intermittently and we actually had a good time just hanging by the pool. It’s a double infinity edge with lounge chairs in the lower section of the pool. Great for photo shoots or just having a few pina coladas.
The clouds started to clear around 5:00 and we tired to go to the “lobby” bar on the water, but for some reason it’s closed on Thursdays. This was a little disappointing, but we did manage to get a drink at the bar adjacent to the French restaurant, which also had a nice view of the sun setting behind the resort’s bungalows. Dinner tonight was a “Tahitian Barbecue” and it was, if we are honest, very disappointing. When we booked it with the concierge, they were purposefully vague about the menu at the agenda. Having been to a few luaus in our time, we figured it would be a buffet, with lots of choices, roasted pig (of course), but other options, as well, maybe some Tahitian dancers, musicians, fire show, etc. Nope! Basic menu (with pork), virtually no entertainment, live music interrupted with piped in music, minimal meat and vegetable choices and no entertainment. Definitely not worth the huge price point and definitely an item we will be looking to get waived from our bill.
After a disappointing dinner experience, we just went back to our rooms to crash for the night. No need to chase the dragon here!
